Will's Skills

I was absolutely, completely fascinated with watching Will's swimming lessons.

Will has never been a water kid. Doesn't like the tub, doesn't like the pool, doesn't like to be wet. I really didn't have much hope for swimming lessons this year.

Turns out, I somehow received a 2-for-1 package deal with Will's class...swimming lessons + parenting/2-year-old-psychology lessons.

His instructor was calm, kind, and fun, but also stern, demanding, and very effective. He got that little group of 2-year-olds to break all sorts of confidence barriers and attempt all sorts of uncomfortable skills by their own free will & choice. Amazing. No bribes, no yelling, no melt-downs...lots of trust-building, patience, and a little bit of positive peer pressure.

Just the way I want to parent (and I have a long way to go!) Fascinating!
